NORAPAO TEXTILE STUDIO

Norapao is a brand with a textile studio specializing in natural dyed and hand woven textiles. Founded by Tetsuya Onuki and designer Miya Onuki. Our creations are deeply rooted in the rich natural resources nurtured by the local climate and the wisdom of traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations. We collaborate with sincere and skilled artisans in Northern Thailand, including Chiang Mai, valuing the unique presence of hand-woven textiles made from silk, cotton, and hemp.

NORAPAO2540 is a new clothing line from NORAPAO. It is a collection of clothes made from carefully selected fabrics inspired by Norapao Textile Studio’s plant dyes and the designer’s own experiences living in tropical climates.

STORE

Our small gallery store in Chiang Mai opened in 2023. It is located in a corner of Jingjai Market, a bit further northeast from the Old Town. The interior of the store, with its earthen walls that let in soft light, is finished with plaster made from Thai clay, just like our studio.

STUDIO

Our small studio is located in a village on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, surrounded by nature. It is a workshop built with local soil. Here we spend our days creating small but intense works, including plants, indigo dyeing, weaving fabrics, designing and tailoring.

LOCAL FIBER

We create textiles using local resources such as traditional Thai silk, naturally grown cotton and linen. Most of it is grown by Thai local farmers in villages.

PLANT DYE , NATURAL INDIGO

All colors are dyed from nature, making use of Thailand's rich natural resources. Natural dyeing and natural indigo dyeing, which do not use chemicals, are the work of artisans that are environmentally friendly and utilize traditional Thai and Japanese methods.

TRADITIONAL WISDOMS and DEVELOPMENT

We are creating with the intention of passing on and evolving the techniques and wisdom of traditional hand-weaving and natural dyeing in the village to the next generation.
